Chinese Steamed Fish (Trout) can be made in under 15 minutes! Using classic Chinese preparation, we place the carrots, tomatoes and ginger on top of the trout to release the flavours into the fish. This is a great dish for a dinner party, or for a main meal with new potatoes or warm rice.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Mak Tok's Sweet Chilli Paste
  • 500g Trout
  • 150g Carrots (matchsticks)
  • 2 large Tomatoes (cut to quarters)
  • 2 Spring onions (finely sliced)
  • 1/2 inch Ginger (finely sliced into matchsticks)
  • 20g Coriander (roughly chopped)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt

Method

1) Using a chopping board, finely slice the carrots, tomatoes, spring onions, ginger and coriander. Then set aside.

2) Rinse the fish in tap water and dry it using paper towels. Then place the fish (trout) on a plate and add the carrots, tomatoes, spring onions, and ginger on and around the fish.

3) Cook the fish in the microwave oven set on high for 7 mins.

4) Once done, remove fish from the microwave oven. Add salt and Mak Tok’s Sweet Chilli Paste before garnishing with some coriander.

Top tip: for a main meal, add some new potatoes or serve with warm rice.
